A one-day course intended for Electrical and Instrument Engineers, Technicians, Safety Codes Officers, Maintenance and Construction Electricians who work in facilities where flammable or combustible materials are a hazard. The course covers the hazardous location safety concepts as it relates to electrical and instrumentation equipment as required by the Canadian Electrical Code. A hands-on tutorial helps with interpreting hazardous location equipment markings.

Learning Objectives:
  • ​To interpret the information incorporated into a hazardous area classification drawing
  • To apply the requirements as defined in Section 18 of the Canadian Electrical Code 
  • To understand the certification requirements for electrical products installed in hazardous locations
  • To be able to interpret Division and IEC Zone markings found on hazardous location products

Allan has over 30 years experience in the design, construction, commissioning and maintenance of industrial power systems. The scope of his experience includes manufacturing, oil and gas production, refining, water treatment and mining industrial facilities. He is a member of the IEEE industrial applications society, a committee member of the Canadian Electrical Code Section 18 (Hazardous Locations) and is a registered Profession Engineer in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
